Welcome to the University of Southern Maine Student Health Insurance webpage!
Beginning this fall 2014, the University of Maine System's seven campuses will require proof of health insurance as a condition of enrollment for all students fitting the criteria outlined below . In conjunction with this change, the University of Maine System is making a Student Health Insurance Policy (SHIP) available. To access a brief description of the Student Heath Insurance Plan select the "Online Student Health Summary" link from the menu located on the left of this web page.
All USM students will be required to show proof of having health insurance as a condition of course enrollment if they meet the following eligibility criteria:
Attention International Students: The SHIP policy is not sufficient to meet insurance requirements for international students with F or J visas. Please contact the Office of International Programs at 780-4959 for more information.
WAIVER: Those students who already have health insurance coverage through another insurer and do not wish to participate in the SHIP will be given the opportunity starting, July 15, 2014, to withdraw from this coverage by selecting the "Waive the Health Insurance" link from the menu located on the left side of this webpage and entering their health insurance information.
Waiver Deadline Fall 2014: October 1, 2014
Waiver Deadline Spring 2015: February 20, 2015 (new spring and transfer students only)
ENROLLMENT: Those who want to take advantage of the SHIP and/or have no other insurance coverage beginning July 15, 2014, should complete the on-line enrollment steps to confirm their insurance enrollment and to get access to their ID card and benefits on the effective date of the policy. The Enrollment deadline is October 1, 2014 for fall, and is February 20, 2015 for new spring semester students. Once enrolled, be sure to "Create an Account" to gain 24hr online access to your insurance plan and to print your ID card.
Please select the appropriate link and follow the prompts to either enroll or waive the insurance if you are in one of the listed categories.
